Founded in 1988, the Shaolin Kung Fu Troupe is a professional organization dedicated to exploring, promoting, and disseminating Shaolin Kung Fu culture.
As a window for showcasing Shaolin Kung Fu culture and conducting foreign affairs and tourism reception, the Troupe provides 5-7 martial arts performances daily for Chinese and foreign tourists in the Shaolin Scenic Area. Over the past 35 years, it has staged more than 67,230 performances, receiving over 38.6 million domestic and international tourists. It has also given special performances for numerous Party and state leaders, as well as foreign dignitaries including Lee Kuan Yew (Senior Minister of Singapore), Kim Young-sam (President of South Korea), and Choummaly Sayasone (President of Laos), along with more than 500 government delegations and diplomatic missions abroad.
Internationally, the performance team of the Shaolin Kung Fu Troupe was the first domestic performance group to bring Shaolin Kung Fu to the world. It has organized 156 performance groups with a total of 1,748 participants to conduct martial arts cultural exchange activities in over 80 countries and regions worldwide, and has traveled to more than 80 countries and regions for cultural exchanges and tourism promotion. It is the first domestic cultural group to perform in world-class performing arts venues such as the Royal Albert Hall (UK), the Golden Hall (Austria), the Kremlin (Russia), Broadway (USA), and the Teatro La Fenice (Italy). Its members have been cordially received by foreign dignitaries including Jacques Chirac (President of France), Lee Kuan Yew (Singaporean statesman), and the Prime Minister of Polynesia.
The Shaolin Kung Fu Troupe pioneered the new performance form of “Kung Fu Drama” in China, and has successively created Kung Fu dramas such as Shaolin Heroic Spirit, Thirteen Monk Warriors, Chan and Wu as One, Shaolin Soul, Rhythm of Martial Arts, and Shaolin Kids, which have shone brilliantly on the world stage.
In 2007, Shaolin Soul had a 5-and-a-half-month residency in the United States, staging over 150 performances, and was awarded the “Outstanding Export Cultural Product and Service Project Award” by the Ministry of Culture.
In 2009, the drama premiered on New York’s mainstream Broadway stage, with 24 consecutive performances. The Governor of New York State and the Mayor of New York City jointly designated January 15th, the premiere date of the drama, as “Broadway China Day”. In May of the same year, the drama was nominated for both the American “Drama Desk Award” and the Tony Award (the highest honor in the theater industry), becoming the first domestic drama to appear on Broadway and receive nominations for two major international awards.
The Shaolin Kung Fu Troupe has made brilliant appearances in various national-level exchange events, including the China-Japan, China-ROK, China-Hungary, and China-Mauritius diplomatic relations anniversary celebrations, the “China Year” in Russia, the “China-France Culture Year”, the opening ceremony of the China-Europe Tourism Year, the 2024 “Joyful New Year · Meet Henan in Africa” Spring Festival Gala, and the closing ceremony of the 2025 China-Cambodia People-to-People Exchange Year.

What will happen if Kungfu meets AI?
《The Rebirth of Martial Rhythm: Shaolin’s Cross-Border Feast with Technology》
When the solemn chime of ancient Chinese bells echoes in overseas theaters or lingers over grand opening ceremonies, a group of figures clad in traditional Shaolin robes steps onto the stage. Rooted in horse stance, their fists cut through the air with the weight of a thousand years of history, and their palms rise and fall with the softness and hardness of Oriental philosophy—this is Shaolin Kung Fu, a treasure of Chinese culture, crossing borders to weave a dialogue between tradition and modernity with technology.
In the elegant space of a theater, AI becomes the invisible bridge connecting Eastern heritage and Western audiences. It deciphers the secrets of Shaolin’s 72 Ultimate Skills, translating the subtle breathing rhythms of Yijin Jing and the precise offensive-defensive logic of Shaolin Fist into vivid visual data. On the big screen, AI-generated virtual monks practice in harmony with real warriors; the force trajectory of the iconic “Black Tiger Steals the Heart” punch is traced by glowing light, making the intangible essence of martial arts tangible. For the audience, this is not just a performance, but a journey through time, exploring the depth of Shaolin wisdom via cutting-edge technology.
At bustling opening ceremonies, digital robots stand side by side with Shaolin monks, becoming the highlight of the celebration. With metallic luster glinting under the lights, these robots replicate every standard Shaolin posture flawlessly—steady as a boulder in horse stance, agile as a bolt of lightning in a kick—guided by AI’s martial arts algorithms. They blend the rigidity of machinery with the vitality of human martial arts, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and innovation. This unique collaboration adds a sense of grandeur and futurism to the opening ceremony, conveying wishes for prosperity and progress.
As the performance reaches its climax, drone swarms take to the sky—whether above the theater’s roof or the opening ceremony venue—painting dynamic pictures under AI’s command. They morph into the iconic silhouette of Shaolin Temple, the graceful strokes of the Chinese character “Chan” (Zen), and even the dynamic arcs of interlaced fists and palms. The sky turns into a giant canvas, where technology and martial arts converge to create a shocking visual spectacle, leaving an indelible impression on every spectator.
From the quiet refinement of theaters to the lively grandeur of opening ceremonies, Shaolin Kung Fu, empowered by AI, digital robots and drones, redefines cross-cultural communication. It is not just a display of martial arts skills, but a cultural dialogue—letting the world feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture, while showing how ancient heritage blooms anew with modern technology.
This cross-border feast transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. Shaolin’s thousand-year-old martial spirit, carried by technology, resonates in every corner of the world. Whether in a theater that celebrates art or at an opening ceremony that heralds a new start, it delivers a message: tradition is never outdated, and when combined with technology, it will shine with unparalleled brilliance, connecting the East and the West in a symphony of culture and innovation.
Key Activity Types
1、Cultural Exchange Performances
We will create a tour themed “the Unity of Zen and Martial Arts”, which integrates classic items such as group boxing, cudgel play, hard qigong and Tai Chi pushing hands. Accompanied by traditional Chinese musical instruments like the guzheng and pipa, it reproduces the performance form of “Martial Arts with Chinese Elegance” that combines hardness and softness. Special performances will be held at overseas cultural centers and art theaters, with an added “audience interaction and experience” session. On – site guests will be invited to learn basic moves, realizing the transformation from one – way display to two – way communication and enhancing cultural identity.
2、Supporting Performances for Competitions and Festivals
As the grand finale performances at the opening and closing ceremonies of international martial arts competitions and martial arts tourism and cultural festivals, these performances will showcase the core charm of Shaolin martial arts. Meanwhile, “Shaolin Kung Fu Workshops” will be held to provide professional guidance for contestants and martial arts enthusiasts, so as to expand the influence in the industry. For local overseas festivals and folk activities, we will customize distinctive performance contents and adjust the choreography by integrating local cultural elements to achieve cultural integration.
3、Public Welfare and Themed Promotion Performances
We will participate in overseas public welfare activities, such as charity performances at international disaster relief charity sales and events caring for the disabled. Drawing on the public welfare model of disaster relief donations by the International Martial Arts Federation, we will convey the spiritual core of Shaolin, which is “compassion for all beings”. Centering on themes like “healthy life” and “cultural inheritance”, small – scale performances will be held in overseas communities and schools to promote the concept of martial arts for health preservation and attract opportunities for subsequent teaching cooperation.
