The basic skills of Shaolin Kungfu are rich and diverse, mainly including training in pile skills, leg skills, waist skills, hand skills, footwork, and internal skills.

1. Shaolin Pile Skills
– Horse – stance pile: Separate your legs to be as wide as or wider than your shoulders, slightly bend your knees, and lower your body’s center of gravity, just like riding a horse. It requires you to chest out, tuck in your abdomen, lift your anus, and keep your body stable. This can exercise leg strength, balance ability, and lower body stability.
– Bow – stance pile: Step one leg forward to form a bow stance, with the front leg bent and the back leg straight, and the distance between the front and back feet is moderate. The knee of the front leg should not exceed the tip of the toe, the back leg should be straight and push against the ground, and the upper body should remain upright. It can enhance leg strength and the flexibility of the hip joint.
– Empty – stance pile: Step one foot forward, with the tip of the foot touching the ground, the heel lifted, and the knee slightly bent; the other leg bends and squats, with the entire sole of the foot touching the ground, and the center of gravity is on the back leg. Pay attention to the clear distinction between the empty and solid, and keep the body balanced. It can improve the leg control ability and sense of balance.

2. Shaolin Leg Skills
Straight – swinging leg techniques
– Front kick: Stand with your feet together, raise your hands to the sides at shoulder level, support with one leg, and kick the other leg straight forward and upward, hook the tip of the foot, and try to get close to the body. Alternate between the left and right legs. It can exercise the flexibility and explosive power of the legs.
– Inside sweeping leg: Stand on one leg, kick the other leg from the side of the body, swing it toward the inside of the body in front of the face, and扣 the tip of the foot inward, shaped like an arc. It can enhance the flexibility of the hip joint and the control ability of the legs.
– Outside sweeping leg: Contrary to the inside sweeping leg, one leg kicks up from the side of the body and swings toward the outside of the body, with the tip of the foot turned outward, and the range should be large. It can improve the flexibility and balance ability of the legs.
Flexing – extending leg techniques
– Spring leg: Support with one leg, lift the other leg with the knee bent, then quickly straighten and pop it out, with the tip of the foot stretched straight, and the force reaches the tip of the foot. It can enhance the explosive power of the leg muscles.
– Stomping leg: Bend the leg and lift it, hook the tip of the foot, then forcefully stomp forward, with the force reaching the heel. It can exercise leg strength and the flexibility of the knee joint.

3. Shaolin Waist Skills
– Forward bending of the waist: Stand with your feet together, cross your fingers, raise your arms straight up, then bend your upper body forward, and try to touch the ground with your hands. It can stretch the muscles on the back side of the waist and enhance the flexibility of the waist.
– Backward bending of the waist: Stand with your feet, put your hands on your hips, bend your upper body backward, tilt your head as far back as possible, and force your waist to push forward. It can improve the forward bending ability of the waist and the flexibility of the spine.
– Waist swirling: Stand with your feet apart, slightly wider than your shoulders, raise your hands, take your waist as the axis, first bend your upper body forward, then swing in a circular motion to the left, back, and right. It can enhance the flexibility and coordination of the waist.

4. Shaolin Hand Skills
– Fist techniques: Including straight punch, hook punch, swing punch, chop punch, etc. The straight punch is a straight forward attack, with force reaching the fist surface; the hook punch is a bending arm hook attack from bottom to top or from outside to inside; the swing punch is a arc-shaped swing attack from the side; the chop punch is a chopping attack from top to bottom. They can improve the strength, speed, and attack ability of the upper limbs.
– Palm techniques: Including pushing palm, chopping palm, lifting palm, pressing palm, etc. The pushing palm is to stretch the arm and push forward, with force reaching the palm; the chopping palm is like a knife, chopping downward or to the side; the lifting palm is to lift from bottom to top; the pressing palm is to press downward. They can enhance the strength of the palm and arm, as well as the flexibility of the hand and the diversity of attacks.

5. Shaolin Footwork
– Forward step: Take a step forward with the back foot, then follow up a small step with the front foot, with a moderate step length. The body’s center of gravity moves stably, which is often used to approach the opponent or adjust the attack distance.
– Backward step: Step back with the front foot, then retreat a small step with the back foot, keeping the body balanced. It can be used to stretch the distance from the opponent, defend, or find a counterattack opportunity.
– Flash step: Move the body’s center of gravity to one side, at the same time, take a step sideways in the same direction with the front foot, and the back foot follows. The movement is quick and agile, used to avoid the opponent’s attack and find a counterattack opportunity.

6. Shaolin Internal Skills
– Shaolin Yijinjing (Muscle – Tendon Changing Classic): Through a series of movements and breathing methods, it regulates the flow of qi and blood in the body, enhances the functions of the internal organs, improves the internal quality and resistance of the body, and is a classic skill of Shaolin internal skills.
– Shaolin Xisuijing (Marrow – Washing Classic): It focuses on cultivating the purity of the body and mind and the internal essence, qi, and spirit. Through specific postures, breathing, an mind-willing guidance, it achieves the purposes of washing the marrow and cutting the hair, strengthening the body, and prolonging life.
